Creed's surgery

Last weekend, over our kids' Spring Break, we traveled to good ol' SLC for Creed's Hypospadius surgery. For those of you who don't know what that is, I will try to explain in non-medical terms (Brian, forgive me :0) ) He was born with the above mentioned condition. It is where his urethra grew down instead of straight out... the results? His little peeny hole was on the bottom instead of in the middle where it normally is. We lovingly called it his "F.L.P." Funny Looking Pecker- gotta love Mitch! As a result of him being born with this, he was not circumcised at birth. For many medical reasons. along with other reasons, we decided to have it fixed. This required us to travel to Primary Childrens Medical Center to have this procedure done.

We had it all scheduled the timing was perfect with our other kids on Spring Break and Mitch able to take the week off.We were set to go, when Creed came down with a cold. We were told that if he was sick at all, we would have to reschedule... This was horrible news! Mitch couldn't take any other time off and it would be a wasted trip- other than seeing family, which we were looking forward to. So we said lot's of prayers and Mitch gave him a blessing, and with a leap of faith that he would be over his cold, we took off.

Wednesday was his consultation with the surgeon- we met him and he was really nice and knew exactly what he was doing- we knew Creed would be in good hands... if we could just get him better! The surgeon just told us to keep doing what we were doing and hope that he'd be okay in time for his surgery on Friday morning.

Thursday we just hung out with my brother Buzz and wife Jenn and their kids, and also got to see my sister Katie and her kids. We stayed the whole time with my wonderful brother and sis-in-law. They were awesome! We felt so welcomed and loved the whole time- they are truly wonderful people! Thanks Buzz and Jenn! You'll never know what that meant to us!

So Friday arrives and Creed is still coughing, but not so bad. The nurse checked him out and she said she thought he'd be okay since he didn't have a fever or anything serious. (Insert BIG sigh of relief!) So we were told to be there at 9:15 for his surgery, and they didn't get him in until 11:30! And the poor boy couldn't eat or drink anything since midnight! He did really well though.

The anesthesiologist came and took our baby from us and that was hard because he is in a "I want my mommy and daddy" stage, so he took one look at the doctor who was holding him, then looked at us and started crying. I wanted to cry too!

Two and a half hours later, the surgeon came and told us that the surgery went beautifully and he was in recovery. We would be allowed to see him in about 15 minutes when he started to wake up. We decided to let Mitch see him first so I wouldn't pass out or barf from the strong anesthesia smell- it's happened before! Anyone surprised?

Well to make a long story short, he is such a little trooper! He was in pain, but we kept it under control with medicines. He slept on his back (a true miracle!) and did remarkably well on the long ride home. He is still healing and his stent will be taken out this Wednesday.

He is such a sweet boy and he is doing well! We are glad that he was able to have the surgery done so he can live a more normal life and feel good about himself. Thanks for all of your prayers on Creed's behalf and ours too. We love you all!

When do you find out what you are having? Or are you not going to find out?

Poor kid! I bet that was so hard to watch him go with the doctor. Way to take care of your kid and help him fit in. Hope you are feeling well!

I hate baby surgeries. that moment they take them a way is heart wrenching.... It must be something with the name. Our Creed had some issues as well and wasn't able to be circ'd until he was one.... sorry should have warned you. :)

We LOVED having you guys stay over, and sorry for being so competitive when playing games. Next time there will be no in-fighting.

Come again!

Hope all is well for you guys! I just wanted to pop in and tell you that I got the figurines at the disney store. We have a bunch of them and my kids love them so it worked out to use them for the cake and then give them to kallie as part of her present! Thanks for the use of your pan! Talk to you soon!
